This and the Molly one was the writers having a friendly joke with the internet. Nothing malicious was intended. They meant it to be humorous, which in sure didn't transfer to the tumblr side of things.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
The only humorous thing about it was showing how _NO HOMO, pls; we're British_ the BBC is.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
the director, too.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Implying British people are homophobic? When the episode was written by a gay, British man? What?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
They certainly can't handle two men kissing on their TV screens, apparently.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
you've not seen some of the shows on British tv lately, have you?

Even 'Eastenders' has had men kissing and that's about as mainstream as it gets over here ;)

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ignore the above poster. They come across xenophobic, wouldn't be surprised if they think we're all posh or cockney either ;)

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, and you haven't seen sherlock, where they showed the m/f kiss but cut away from the m/m?

huh?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
...Possibly because the creators are different, not the broadcaster?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
As someone British I can inform you, we have more than one channel! In fact we have hundreds! And yes, there's been same sex kisses before! Wow! The more you know!

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Why didn't they include it in this episode, then?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Because Gatiss didn't put it in the episode. It's that simple. He wrote it that way, you don't have to like it.

Are you seriously saying that because of one TV show, that Britain as a nation are all homophobic? That's a sweeping generalisation and your original comment came across in that way. (you can't even call the BBC "no homo" Eastenders is on the same network).

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
How do you know he wrote it that way? The director decides how to shoot it.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Reaching for excuses isn't helping, to be honest. But do go after an openly Homosexual man for his 'queer baiting', you go heterosexual cisgendered slash fangirls!

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
no, we're queer.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
And even gay sex scenes.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
and don't forget, two of the top entertainment hosts in the country (graham norton and alan carr) are both blazingly out of the closet. i mean, seriously, accusing the UK of being homophobic, especially when you come from a country like the US, is just bizarre.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
And apparently you've not seen too much British TV considering that there are plenty of things that have same-sex kissing and relationships in them, including stuff that's made for children.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
You don't watch a lot of BBC TV, do you?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
then they could have shown both kisses. simple as that BUT NOO, LOL IT'S SHERLOCK NO HOMO

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? I think it's funny how people are all up in arms about it because that's exactly what the writers wanted to achieve, imo. Those scenes were all about mocking the fandom with their elaborate "how did he do it" theories and at the same time, I bet they were sitting back with popcorn during and watched livebloggers on tumblr and twitter explode at the Molly/Sherlock scene.
