Re: If you could delete just one incident from a canon, what would it be?

Any arc in Modern DW which involves the companion fancying the Doctor because I do not give a crap about the soap/romantic section,

I don't so much mind River, the story could have been executed better but that's a different essay, she wasn't technically a companion and her story would have been so much more unique if you know all the other girls didn't fancy him already but Rose/Martha/Clara and to some extent Amy fancying the Doctor, just no. I like them fine as companions once all the sappiness is taken away and it's just friendship again.

Hence why Donna is my favourite companion, closely followed by Rory with everyone else behind them.

(I'm probably going to get hate from people but eh).

I agree! But I'm someone who only likes romance stories if I can buy that maybe this couple could end up together for the rest of their lives. We already know how someone fancying the Doctor is going to end up, it's the same story with different covers.

Donna is also my favorite, I really enjoyed having a series of just the Doctor and his companion being buddies. And I feel like sometimes the Doctor needs that more then having someone swoon over him.

So agreed. I do have Doctor ships (in fact, I ship him with Donna precisely because a romance wasn't forced in canon and I love their banter), and I agree about River, but everyone loving the Doctor is stupid. It was annoying when Rose was portrayed as his "true love" that he cared for more than any other companion in 900 years, and it was equally annoying when every Moffatt-era companion was in love with him.

I don't really get it, either, because frankly the Doctor would make a horrible boyfriend. He'd be fun to travel with and a fun friend, but why is everyone in love with him?

Different anon but this is why I feel like it's not necessary to insert romance into every TV show, fandom is going to ship what it wants to ship anyway. And if any show can do without romance, it's Who.

Plus nothing bugs me more then having a character EVERYONE must fall in love with. It also inevitably leads down a road where some actors don't really have the chemistry.

I would have flat out adored Martha if it weren't for the pining/love interest bits that seemed to overtake her character. Why ruin such an awesome character with that shit?
