Re: Finding out people you like are scumbags

I had a sort of friends with benefits situation going on with a guy and he completely stopped talking to me after I started getting serious with my girlfriend and told him he wouldn't be getting anymore blowjobs from me.

That's ...not really being an asshole or a scumbag though? He didn't owe you anything but orgasms since that's the kind of relationship you had with him. And if you were getting serious with someone else, then I have no idea why you'd complain about him respecting your romantic relationship enough to stop seeing you.

I'm not seeing why we couldn't have kept being friends without sex. I thought he valued the other parts of our relationship too.

Yeah, I thought the part about being friends with benefits is that you are friends first. Seems crappy of him to stop being friends with you.

That's what I thought. I've been wondering if I used the phrase "friends with benefits" incorrectly because that other reply confused me.

In my experience the FWB label doesn't always mean friends in the way most people take the word "friend" to mean. In fact, it tends not to for a lot of guys. To most people I've spoken to it's more of an intermediate level between casual sex and girlfriend, and most of the time just means more along the lines of "a person I meet for sex regularly but who I don't want to be romantic with".

Having actual interests in common usually doesn't factor into it, nor is there obligation to stick around afterward. The lack of that social obligation is part of the appeal (at least, it is to people like me).

Well I meant it literally. Friends. Except apparently not.
