They chose to cut away from the same-sex kiss but show the opposite-sex one fully for no reason at all. That is a double standard.

I've seen some people try to argue that it was cut like that for the comedic timing, but I don't buy that. Would it really have made any difference if one more second of footage had been shown before cutting to Anderson? I don't think so.

Maybe because the two scenes served two very different purposes? Molly and Sherlock are friends, well as much friends as someone can be with Sherlock and the kiss was an expression of that. The Sherlock/Moriarty was obviously played for laughs, but I thought it was mocking more the idea of these two particular characters getting together because they're mortal enemies and Moriarty was determined to destroy Sherlock and the fandom obsession of hooking two guys up even when it makes absolutely no sense rather than the fact that they're men. Although would there really have been less complaining if they had kissed since it was pretty obvious we weren't meant to take any of it seriously?

That's your right. But there are other just as valid explanations for the scene. I don't know what was in the mind of the writer. It's possible he was mocking gays, but it's just as likely they were mocking fans and their theories generally especially since part of the episode was all about poking fun at all the wild theories about what happened on the roof none of which were treated particularly seriously.

Please explain why Sherlock/Irene gets treated as a legitimate ship and Sherlock/Moriarty does not, when they are both criminals who tried to fuck him over?

Now of course Irene didn't actively try to kill him like Moriarty did, but she was still working with Moriarty against him and I very much doubt she would have cared at all if Sherlock had ended up dead.

Is the fact that Moriarty actively worked to end Sherlock while Irene didn't not enough? Perhaps, you should also consider that Sherlock went to great lengths the save the woman. I mean. I'm not saying it's likely, because asexual or not, Sherlock spurns sex, but Irene didn't try to kill John at any stage where Moriarty did.

maybe the opposite sex actors were comfortable kissing each other and the actors for the same sex couple said, "No thanks." It's not like they're filming this thing with clay models or Barbies.

True. I really wouldn't blame them for saying no, given what a stupid, childish and embarrassing scene it was.

But we don't know exactly what happened, and since this show is notorious for shitty 'lol no homo' jokes, it's not hard to believe that it was written like that.

But of course if it was ever confirmed that it was because the actor/s weren't comfortable, I'd definitely stop accusing the scene of being homophobic.

kissing is a very intimate act whether you're bullshitting it or not. i've seen loads of interviews with actors talk about how uncomfortable kissing/love scenes are. not only that, for somebody who is straight having to kiss a person of the same sex (or gay having to kiss opposite sex), well, can you really blame them for not wanting to do it for the sake of a joke when it wouldn't have any bearing on the integrity of the show? it'd be different if either of them had signed up knowing that would be a part of the show, but this was just an idea that came up well into it. they have every right to not want to do it. i definitely wouldn't want to do it. i'm not an actor, but seriously, actors are not just monkeys in a circus.

I would argue that the kisses reflect the story context -- Molly has always had Mills & Boon-type feelings for Sherlock, hence the Mills and Boon style kiss; Moriarty and Sherlock were conspiring like two naughty schoolboys, hence the more light-hearted and more equal kiss.
