You can also be pro-religion, anti-converting others, and confused by OP's weird belief that someone talking about their life was in any way trying to convert OP. Or maybe OP thought that she was "protecting" those poor Africans, who could very easily decline the trail-friend's attention?

I dunno. OP's response didn't make sense to me. And most of this thread is just gross, on both sides of the aisle.

OP didn't think their fellow dog-walker was trying to convert them. OP found their fellow dog-walker's participation in a Mission trip that involved going to South Africa to build churches and hand out Bibles uncomfortable and ethically-suspect, with the whole colonialist proselytization angle and all. That's what I got out of it, at any rate. Does that clarify things?

No. Because now I'm left with the impression that OP and most of this thread thinks that only people in first world countries have the ability (or perhaps deserve the right) to coolly evaluate their options and choose for themselves.

At the end of the day, no one was trying to convert OP and whatever conversations happened between trail-lady and the citizens of whatever African nation she visited had nothing to do with OP either. So I'm left with the enduring question of "And how does this prove the woman is a scumbag and thus unworthy of OP's friendship?"

And most of this thread still comes off as ickily paternalistic.
