Oldskool is the way to go!!

Most of the series I get into now are the older ones (older being a kind of relative term).

First of all, I definitely recommend the Rose of Versailles. I watched it a couple of years ago, and it's one of my favorite series ever!

Second, SLAYERS!! asldkfjks I love Slayers! Especially Xellos. Seriously, he is el numero uno rolled into a smexy bun and topped with awesome sauce.

I love Xelloss, too (how can you not)? He cracked me up in the final episode when everybody is all depressed about the outcome of the final battle and he's all ^_^!!!
