I will always be baffled that JD/Turk was so rare in Scrubs fandom. They have a whole damn song about how much they love each other! In any other fandom the slashers would be eating that up.

My thoughts exactly. Seriously, I thought there would be way more fic for them than there is. Likewise, I feel the same way about Shawn/Gus.

I feel like fandom is just a lot more hesitant in shipping something that breaks the 'two attractive white men' rule

I'm not sure if I'd go that far myself. I can understand not wanting to break up Carla and Turk, but when has that stopped shippers before? It is just mindboggling how small the followings for these two pairings are.

I assumed Shawn/Gus would be the main ship and was surprised to find out he wasn't. I don't watch the show, though, so I figured everyone else knew something I didn't.

Shawn/Lassiter is a bit more antagonistic. Other than that, I don't get it. Gus and Shawn's relationship is filled with bickering and a bit of conflict at times too. Theyre not always buddy buddy together.

Maybe the Shawn/Gus dynamic is intimidating to try to write? I like the pairing but I don't have the pop culture knowledge necessary to make a semi-decent attempt. I suspect that I'm not the only one.

But the song is about how they love each other as bros.

It's the same reason I don't ship Scott/Stiles in Teen Wolf. There's nothing hidden, the love is out there and they are so open and comfortable with it and it is a pure and undying bro-love I can't imagine actually shipping it.

But yeah, I guess overall I'm surprised at the lack of slash.

Yeah, my opinion on JD/Turk was always "Canon has every angle covered; where would you go from there?"

Well, tbf they are SO out in the open and affectionate that there's really nothing that would change about their relationship if they were actually gay other than also having sex. I can see how slashers might go "yeah, I don't know what more I can do with these two."

But that kind of thing hasn't stopped shippers from shipping other uber-affectionate bffs in other fandoms, so yeah, I dunno what's up with that. Well, I have my suspicions, but I'd rather not assume.
