Re: Pairings you thought would have been popular

I'm surprised how little Bard/Thranduil there is. Like hot grumpy dads together is not people's thing? I didn't except it to be this next big thing, but there's 5 fics I know of (of which one is WIP and three are part of a series). Granted, they didn't even meet yet, but that hasn't stopped anyone before. There's some demand for it on the kink meme, but not much. Maybe it'll be more popular after the next movie.

I remember being really baffled how popular Thorin/Thranduil was after the first movie. But I think it's just me not getting pairings that start on an antagonistic base.

Maybe because we have seen exactly no interaction between Thranduil and Bard, not even distant cold looks, which Thorin/Thranduil has.

As for Thorin/Thranduil, it's exactly the sort of baseless shipping of the "They were in one scene together! It's True Love!" type, and hot-looking characters. I dislike the pairing because I can't parse the idea that Thorin could ever get past his hatred of Elves, don't think he would have been old enough for anything before Smaug, don't think Thranduil would betray his wife (but that is more due to ideas of monogamy that stem from Tolkien's opinions), and general dislike of Thranduil on a whole.
