Re: Who were you in a past life?

Re-incarnation, as I understand it as a layperson, means you are a reborn soul. Your soul may have been someone else in a former life - a soldier in Vietnam, a child who died during the Great Plague, a Mayan priest.

Sometimes, you might have dreams that feel more like memories. If you have a 'past life regression', you might wind up with a great deal of information that you're not sure how you knew; experiencing things that you never experienced yourself in your own life.

I hope that helps.

But it doesn't have anything to do with sharing personality traits? Soul!=character? (And what is soul, for that matter?)

Getting weird flashbacks would actually be cool, I think. I'd go for someone with a good and eventful life. Stevenson, maybe.

Not really, as I understand it, but I could be wrong (how they figure out who's the next reincarnation of the Buddha still floors me).

I still don't know if I believe in reincarnation, because some of it sounds really hokey, but the fact one of my friends could say she had waking dreams of fighting in Vietnam, and during a past-life regression, she came up with a name of a soldier, and found that name on the Wall, did some additional research, and found a photo of the man she'd been dreaming she was for years, well. She was not related to this man, he wasn't even the same race, or from the same area she'd grown up in, there was no real way for her to know anything about this man, but she did. And that was...a little weird and wild, and, frankly, Wow.

I've been told some of my more peculiar dreams point to me being a Native American Shaman in a former life (again, I take all that with a grain of salt, because while I'm willing to believe my friend's experience, until something that concrete happens with me? Yeaaaaaah, okay).
