I usually just stay in a relationship as long as it works and leave when it doesn't, and don't put too much effort into trying to predict it. Don't worry too much about trying to predict it or anything. But then, for me relationships come second to school and work, so if you consider a relationship to be a primary goal, then it's a different matter entirely.

Though I guess it also depends on what you are looking for out of the relationship (anything from "friends with benefits" to "marriage candidate"), as that can drastically affect the answer. If you go into each relationship hoping to find someone to eventually marry, then I'd give it an ample amount of time. If you're just looking for some fun, not so much.
