Why?

Many (not just Christiansen’s) of the performances were wooden or stilted. The CGI didn’t look real. There wasn’t enough build-up, politically or emotionally for me to really feel engaged with either Anakin’s fall and the Empire’s rise, two really big plot points that could have had really nice parallels. The midi-chlorian explanation was just dippy, seriously, and unnecessary. There wasn’t any need for Anakin to kill those kids – that just pissed me off and made me realize that my idea of redeemable was leagues away from Lucas’. Most importantly, the setting and characters didn’t feel like they were nineteen years away from A New Hope. And since it was a prequel trilogy, supposedly telling the back story of the other trilogy, that’s a pretty big failure, in my opinion. Given all that, why did you like them better?
