I have no idea what the last one is, but Sherlock, Dr. Who and Big Bang? Controversial? Er, maybe among crazy fandom opinion, but they are all extremely popular and pretty mainstream. I don't think they are controversial at all?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-14 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Controversial among people with good taste, perhaps.

As someone with self-admitted bad taste (or low standards especially when it comes to enjoying films/etc), I have to wonder what it means that I only enjoy DW out of the shows listed on this secret. XD

Does that mean my taste isn't as bad as I thought?

I BBT legitimately is controversial despite also being very popular. Or maybe 'divisive' would be a better word.

The others, yeah, I think they're only especially controversial with us Internet weirdos.

This. I've seen a lot of BBT-aimed flack, especially here. It seems to be kind of polarizing.

Sherlock and Dr. Who at least are fandoms with very high wank factors, maybe they're referring to that?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-14 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I love 3 out of 4 of those (never seen the Big Bang Theory) and nuts to the haters! Like what you want to like, OP. We all have enough stress in our lives, it sucks when you're made to feel stressed out about your choices of entertainment too (the thing that's meant to be a relief from the stresses of life)! I used to worry about that too, but I've just had enough of worrying about it.

This.

Watch out, we got a BADASS over here!

Mrs. Brown's Boys?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-14 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong!

I wouldn't necessarily say that MBB is "controversial" as such, but there is a lot of hate for it; people considering it to be low brow, and people looking down their noses at those who like it.

Maybe when OP said it was a "controversial combination" they were literally talking about the combination itself being controversial?

This is the first time I've ever heard of this show.

Yes, what on earth, OP? Pls don't tell me there's a MBB fandom D:

I don't think I could have picked a more controversial group of shows.

i don't see spn and teen wolf anywhere.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-14 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Meh. Tell me you like Duck Dynasty or listen to Rush Limbaugh and we'll talk controversy.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-14 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
i wish rush limbaugh's show was just a duck

just making duck noises and doing duck things

I have a theory that when things that relate to fandom - 3/4 of the ones listed - become more mainstream and enjoyed by a wider range of people, then fandom has to re-establish its marginalism and elitism by being too good for these shows, particularly when fandom has been around for such a long time before this mainstream resurgence.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-14 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
If by "controversial" you mean "fucking atrocious", I'm inclined to agree.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-14 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, get you with your good taste!

What's with the snobbishness about mainstream TV that's all over fandom lately?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-14 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, anon. Are you me? LOL! YANA...
