It's one thing to not care for romance, but you almost sound kind of hostile to it. Pointless? Not to everyone.

That said, I hope you're able to find some books that suit your interests better.

I always feel very uncomfortable reading romance, and it especially seems a bit pointless in a situation where survival needs to be at the front of their minds instead of kissing. I've just felt kinda sick even thinking about romance my whole life, and I know not everyone feels that way, but I just prefer not to read it.

Thank you, I hope I'm able to find some books soon, I'm going to have to start reading Fallout fanfiction since I'm running out of books I'm interested in.

It may help to remember that for many people, hormones and instincts kick in to the point where in dire situations their romantic/sexual attraction becomes magnified in dire situations - panic that they're going to lose that person, for example. I understand that that's not what appeals to you at all.

I've never heard of anyone having romance as such a strong squick, but it's not unimaginable. It must be frustrating since romance is part of so many stories.

THIS. It is not unrealistic at all for those feelings to be flying after the apocalypse (I'm sure some people might emotionally shut down, but definitely not all) and I've always been frustrated when people don't get this.

If only one person survived, it's not survival. That would just be waiting to die. Enough people surviving and reproducing (which would be the function of romance) is real survival.

OP, if fucking wasn't on people's minds during a survival situation, we would not have survived and evolved as a species. Is that not obvious?

if you start making out in the face of apparent danger, you wont reproduce. like, at all.

I feel the same. Dear gods, you're scrounging for food and...you wanna make out? Fuck that noise. It's boring and stupid.

I think there's a huge difference between mainstream notions of romance VS humans being humans and random fucking for warmth and maybe developing feelings for another person (for e.g. if you're the only two around).

Unfortunately there's a reason why mainstream is mainstream... and yeah, I haven't seen much of the latter.
