Believe me this is not an unpopular opinion.

But might I direct you to the song "Part Of Your World" and the fact that it was sung before Ariel knew who Eric was? She was obsessed with the surface world.People always seem to forget that part.

I mean I'm not saying you have to like her or anything, but just that her interest in the surface world has already existed , and Eric was probably just one reason on top of many that she made her choice. and I also get the feeling that the real conflict of the movie was actually between Ariel and her father. When you look at it from that perspective that it was Ariel chasing independence it sort of puts a new light on things, imo at least.

But hey, you're entitled to your opinion and that's cool. I apologize if I seemed rude.

And well said. (You're right in that Eric was only a small part of the reason she wanted to see the world above, and he coupled with her fathers reaction were the final push she needed to go for it.)

Thanks :3

I see this "she did it for a boy she hardly knew" stuff over and over again and it gets on my nerves sometimes.

Agreed. It really annoys me the way people are so intent on insulting a character for a reason that isn't even true.

good post! I actually didn't like this movie when I was younger, and really appreciated it as an adult. I wanted my independence and to date the people I wanted to date and it was viewed as this huge betrayal. Oh well! I got my legs in the end.

I'm glad you got your legs and are happy now (hopefully). I'm sorry your family / parents /what have you were that way, that really sucks. Everyone deserves independence.

Yes I'm very happy now! Thank you!
