Even as a kid I had issues with this, once I was old enough to think about what I was watching. (Before that, I loved it.) But in retrospect... I can see both your point and the points people here have already raised, that Ariel was really just trying to be independent period.

And is it really that unusual to meet a guy, get a glimpse of what life could be through him (a life you've always kind of wanted anyway) and go for it?
