Your quirks...

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
What are they?

Me, I'm always irrationally happy when the secrets that I'm following the comments for follow a pattern, and dissatisfied if something breaks that up. Like, I love that the numbers for three of the four secrets I'm following are factors of three.

And then I hate The Little Mermaid today for throwing off the perfect three-ness.

That's a little weird.

Little Quirky: I have to check all my fandoms' fanfic updates in a certain pattern. I can't eat food if it touches and I have to eat it in a certain order. I only use certain dishes.

A lot Quirky: I don't like opening doors or looking through windows at night. When I eat a sandwich, I have to rub the smooth side (the top) against my lips. I need at least a day's notice in advance when plans are going to change so that I can prepare myself.

Sort of like that, I have to close the bathroom door when I'm sleeping at night because I'm terrified I'll turn over and see a sillouette in the doorway. Eeeeep.

I don't like it when my food touches either. I've gotten better about it, though.

I generally always pour gas for pretty much the exact amount (30 litres) and I like money on my bank account to be multiples of 5, op to the point I've even bought things for the exact amount by card to bring it to that number.

I'm terrible at estimating so everything I measure will be exact. I have no idea what half a cup of flour means, so I only follow recipes that call for precisely 200g of flours.

Re: Your quirks...

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
huh? half a cup of flour means half a cup of flour. you take your half-cup measure and fill it with flour.

Oh well, half the recipes my family uses are, well, family recipes, and 'half a cup of flour' means 'fill half a teacup with flour'. Occasionally, it means 'half a mug'. The only apparatus my mother uses to accurately measure stuff is weighing scales.

oh, i see. yeah, that would be confusing, i'd rather not work with directions like that either.

Maybe they don't have them where you live, but in the US we have measuring cups that have markings for 1 cup, 1/2 cup, 3/4 cup, and 2/3 cups. Or we have different sized cups that are exactly that amount. Although sometimes if I can't find my measuring cups I use a coffee mug and just fill it about halfway, but that's not exact.

Oh I see. Indeed, we do not have those here. So yeah, we just use teacups and coffee mugs. My mum's pretty good at estimating what those mean, so I thought everybody was just supposed to do that.

When I write fanfiction I imagine the characters standing behind me and explaining, in detail, how they want me to portray them. I've found it helps stave off OOCness.

Re: Your quirks...

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's cute.

I used to do something similar, but it was more like the character was there judging me, and it made me not want to write him.

Heh, that would so not work for the characters I write. Self-deluding egos on legs, every one of 'em.

I always keep my clock an hour fast because it makes me feel like I have an extra hour as I tell myself that it's not really that time yet.

I really like it when the amount of my bill is a palindromic number. It happens oftener than you would think, too.

A bit quirky: I can't wear socks that don't match, I can't put socks that I've taken off back on(I have to get a new pair), I eat my food in a certain order.

A lot quirky: I have to wash my hands immediately after I'm done eating(or if I touch food when I'm not going to pick anymore up for a while), if I'm walking around in the dark I avoid mirrors/reflective surfaces.

warning: my third quirk is a little gross

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
- I used to be afraid of putting things in threes. I've since gotten over this, but for a while I avoided it as often as I could.

- If no one's looking I dance to the music in stores. Sometimes even when people are looking.

- This one's a bit gross, so if you're prone to being queasy, beware...

When I was in high school, I got a splinter. But the thought of someone else getting it out for me freaked me out, so I got alcohol, washed a pin, and took care of it myself. It didn't hurt or anything, but I seriously think it would have bothered me if someone else had done it.

Your third quirk is actually very common in my family. I thought it was normal.

I'm one of those people who always has to be moving something unless I'm going to sleep. I'm always shaking a leg or foot (though I stopped just now to start typing, because I'm moving my fingers) and I often rock side-to-side if I'm having to stand still.

I wear a pencil in my hair to have one handy. It's second-nature now for me to reach up to where my pony tail starts to grab a pencil if I need one, and if there's not one there I swipe at my head a couple of times before figuring out what I'm doing.

If I see a zit I always at least try to pop it before walking away from the mirror. I dislike leaving them. I also find it satisfying to rub my eyes (like when I wake up, or wash my face) and have an eyelash come out. It just feels cleansing.

Your first quirk is a big part of the reason I taught myself to knit. Gives me a productive way to twitch.

Knitting strikes me as being very soothing. I don't know that I'd have the attention span for it, though.

My body has to feel balanced. Like, if I hit my left knee on a table, I have to hit or rub my right knee, or it kinda feels like I'm going to fall over.

I talk to myself a lot. Nothing meaningful, I just chatter away to myself while doing things (when no-one is around that is).
