F!S ever since New Year's I feel I was hit by a brick.

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2014-01-15 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not really sick, I'm just tired and headachy unmotivated and can't bring myself to do even the most basic of things.

December was awesome, I had a lot of freelance work, had some nice time with family...

And now I just feel like I'm being sucked into a black hole.

I should be jobhunting again. There's volunteer work I'm terrible behind on. My living space is a mess. There's documents I need to sort out, clothes I need to fix etc. Every day I have several things I want to do, and I'm lucky if I manage one. And this includes stuff I like, like catching up on series. And if I do it, I do it with reluctance. Worst thing is, tomorrow's my anniversary with my bf, we're having dinner in our favorite place and I just can't bring myself to be excited about it. I just feel like I have an energy-sucking parasite.

Not really looking for an answer, just wanted to vent.

Depression sucks. I'm sorry. I've been going through something similar. I've been taking Vitamin D and trying to up my protein and vegetable intake but no noticeable change yet.

Hope you have a good time at the anniversary dinner, and congrats on the anniversary!

Have an answer anyway: You're probably depressed. Sounds pretty textbook.

If you have a therapist, talk to 'em. If you don't, consider getting one. Or (especially if you live in the Northern Hemisphere) you could try to make a point of getting more sunshine.

I actually have pretty bad experiences with therapists in the past, so I'm definitely not at the point I'm willing to go to one. Also not really something I'm keen to spend money on as I'm on a budget. It's weird because I did have depression when I was much younger, but that felt...more destructive? More anxious, too? I might not be explaining well, but it felt different?

DA

Depression comes in a lot of different types. For example, I have chronic depression but every low phase can be different. Sometimes it's just lethargy and lack of interest in something, sometimes it's really destructive or angry, sometimes I just want to cry all the time. It can just really be about a lot of different feelings and come on in different ways. Definitely agree that your first post sounds like Depression tho.

Well, good to know that it comes in different types.

As other anon said, depression can take a lot of different forms even in the same person. I mentioned the sunlight because total-lack-of-motivation depression is something that I tend to get around this time of year, when (where I live) it gets dark early. I don't know your exact circumstances, and getting twenty minutes a day of direct sunlight may not be any more practical than paying for a therapist, but if you can it might be very effective.

That's actually really nice advice. I'm sensitive to daylight changing and just natural things in general (temperature, seasons, weather). Not easy getting all that much sun now, though. Today was an absolutely dreary day.

Seconding seasonal. Many, many people get seasonal depression due to sunlight. Mine varies from year to year. I don't notice it as much now that I'm medicated for clinical depression, but before I got that I got depressed around this time of year.

Going out and doing things always made me feel a lot better. Sitting around is a self-feeding cycle. I bet you'll have fun tomorrow night! Smile, and it *will* make you feel better. I thought that sounded ridiculous at first, but it helped (for mild stuff, like seasonal). And you could always try things like a sunlamp or extra vitamin D - some people swear by that shit for seasonal depression, though I've never tried it.

Feel better~

I already am taking Vitamin D! I actually have a deficiency, so that can't be helping either.

I'm sorry. I hope you feel better soon. I've gone through periods like that before and it's not fun.

Everyone else has already said it, but it does sound like you're experiencing some depression. It sucks and I'm not really sure what to suggest because I'm not the best at dealing with my own. Mostly I just try to get myself into a positive mood and try to stay active and do things I enjoy when I can. If you can afford a therapist or have insurance that will cover one that's an excellent suggestion, but even just talking things out with someone you trust would be somewhat beneficial.

I'm sorry you're going through this and hope things will improve for you soon. Congrats on the anniversary!

Thanks for your kind words. I will see how it progresses and if it gets worse I will try to find someone to talk to.

are you sure you don't really have an energy sucking parasite like mono or an undiagnosed sinus infection or something like that that could be bringing you down?

Oh boy. Sinus infections. I've been down with something since November and my ear was blocked again because of it. I've been using salt packets to rinse my sinuses and the blockage is slowly clearing up. It's annoying as hell to hear myself breathe all the time and having to ask people to repeat what they are saying.

:(

I hope it completely clears soon.

You might want to consider getting an RX for a nasal steroid like Flonase. It can help prevent sinus infections and ear infections; the doc put Fiona on it to prevent her ear infections.

[personal profile] agentcthulhu 2014-01-15 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I've used it or something like that before. I was on a nasal spray a few years ago to help clear my sinuses and I went in for a follow-up after a week of using the nasal spray with no improvements. When I mentioned there was now spots of blood on dirtied tissues, the doctor immediately told me to stop using the nasal spray and gave me a neti pot instead. The problem was that I get small surface blood vessel breaks easily when my nasal tissues are inflammed and irritated, and dryness is a side effect of using nasal sprays. That's not a good combination as you can imaging - dry tissues are more prone to nosebleeds.

This year, the blood-infused mucous attacks occured before the ear blockage. Using nasal sprays did not even occur in my mind. General housekeeping and preventative care seem to be my best options unfortunately.

Oh dear. Well that's definitely not an option then. :( I tend to get nosebleeds when it's dry myself, not bad ones, but still annoying. I am so fortunate, though, that I don't have allergies, and I don't think I've ever had a sinus infection. Maybe as a kid. Certainly ages ago if so.

*hugs*

Feel better soon.

I don't know, but I'll be having a pretty extensive blood test next week anyway , so we'll if anything turns up.

High-five!

I've had a thoroughly shit-tastic start to the New Year, as well.
Vent on, OP. At least we can be miserable together.

I don't mean to be alarmist, but that sounds like depression.
