Re: Confession thread?

I've never told anyone this, but one of the main reasons I got a dog was so that I wouldn't kill myself. It's worked. I adopted him when he was 5months and he turns 7 this year. Sometimes I resent having him because I still get this thoughts about dying and I can't because he needs me, but mostly I just love him so. I worry about what will happen when he dies. He's a medium size mutt so should have a pretty good life span but still I worry.

I'm glad to hear that you are still here and that your furry friend has helped you! That is great that you've found a way to help yourself. But, if possible, I really hope you talk to a councilor or therapist about this.

I can relate, I'm not trying to say I know what you're going through completely, but I do relate. And I know things can be tough some days. -hug-

I did this too, although she has since passed on. The two I got after have been doing an equally good job of keeping me responsible.

Hang in there anon!

Seconding that I hope you are able to talk to someone about this because it sounds like a chronic problem.

Animals are awesome and often an automatic mood-lifter for me. Glad your dog is helping you out :3

Get a new dog

There are plenty of pooches who could use some love. if one passes, as they do, get another. You've already got the stuff.

Yeah, and if you can swing it OP, get a second one BEFORE this one passes (which he probably won't do for a long, long time). That way it can have a doggy friend AND you're never without.

Great advice.

Adopting a dog can be really rewarding - you're giving the dog a loving new home, and you give your own life a bit of added meaning.
