I can't read the threads where people complain about people with mental illnesses.

There's plenty to complain about and the first post is usually valid and I sympathize but there always end up being people who go too far and reinforce the negative stereotypes that my brain is constantly reminding me of.

So I just ignore them now.

I stopped a long time ago because I realized that wanting to help and not being able to was fucking me up emotionally. I scroll by posts on here that are too personal.

I've blacklisted terms like depression on Tumblr because posts always hit way too close to home. On the chance that one slips past and I accidentally see it, I usually have to turn off the computer and do something else until I forget about it.

Is this related to the recent posts about people not be able to deal with suicidal family members? I'm usually sympathetic to the OP's plight, but at the same time I also find myself hoping no suicidal person reads that far into the comments. They seem to confirm all the feelings of worthlessness and guilt over being a burden that the severely depressed tend to have.
