I find amusing (and by amusing I mean fucking stupid) how people completely ignore Gatiss. He's one of the two creators of the show, producer and writer and people act like he's just the guy who plays Mycroft and has no saying in the show so Moffat can be the evil boogeyman. You guys are beyond help.

just think of "Moffat" as synechdoche for "the creative team behind Sherlock/Doctor Who" if that helps

da

Gatiss' writing was fine, if a bit gimmicky, until he got bitten by the keep-it-moving-at-100kph-so-they-won't-notice-the-gaping-plot-holes writing bug that's infected Moffat since forever. And arguably, he was the closest to Canon of all of three of the BBC Sherlock writers. Until he decided to write to the Tumblr fandom. Then he wasn't.

As one of teh creators of the show, I'm sure that he and Moffat discuss plots and characterization, I doubt the episodes are created independently.

AYRT

...I don't disagree? I mean, that's what AIRT I was responding to said...I agree, and I think this is why the show has gotten even worse.

I can just imagine those conversations about "plot."

"And this happens!"

"Then that happens!"

"Let's have this happen!"

"Better throw in a story title to appease the Sherlockians."

"Right, but at least we can amuse ourselves with a stupid pun at those bespectacled book-readers' expense."

"Wait, so what are we going to do with all of these loose plot threads?"

"Forget it, we won't have time to tie up any loose ends, and the proles are too stupid, anyway. They're going to be squealing and fangirling over all the things we've put in, plot is the last thing they even have the brain capacity to follow, never mind appreciate."

"You're absolutely right! Chekhov's gun is so passe. Squeeing."

"Eh?"

"You said squealing. It's squeeing."

"Po-TAY-to, po-TAH-to."

"Right."

He's the one that made fun of fat fangirls, so I hear what yr saying.

He did what?! Explain yourself.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-16 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
The girl in Anderson's fan club was overweight. There was no jokes about her weight, her appearance or anything else. She just gave a theory and Anderson and she had a bit of banter about how stupid each others theories were.

People are implying the fact an overweight actress was cast that this was making fun of fangirls.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-16 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
SJWs are implying, you mean. Not people. And I really have to wonder WHY the fandom is identifying so strongly with the character, when all three episodes are bad sendups of poorly-written fanfic.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-16 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
So SJWs aren't people? Nice othering, asshole.

SJWs are the Borg.

Right. And if she has been sexy and thin, it would have been an inaccurate representation of fandom, amirite?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-16 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
What? I'm well aware there's thin people in fandom. I'm sorry if that's the impression you got from my message but it wasn't intended. I was just going over what complaints (not many, mostly tumblr people complaining it was making fun of fan girls) I'd seen about her.

No, I know what you meant. But if it had been otherwise, probably fandom would complain about not enough fat representation or something along those lines, is what I meant.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-16 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
da
They could've cast a fat actress for any other role. No one have complained about very thin/fat representation in previous eps, so I disagree.

Yeah, I get your point. I still think it's silly to grasp for straws and say it was a fat joke, though. I didn't get that vibe at all. There were other people in the room, weren't there?

SA

Well I meant SJW's... people in reality don't analyse it as much...tbh. If they'd casted a model people would have complained, so they cast a fairly normal looking girl and people still kick off. You can't win. i liked her, I thought she was funny and I liked her hilarious conversation with Anderson.

This. She was fine. Nothing offensive about her. I felt like she was used to make fun of Anderson (with HIM representing "serious" fan theories), while she was simply having fun.

Plus, she might have been overweight, but certainly not ugly.
