SPOILERS
normally i try to not get attached to assassin's creed characters because i know that like 70% of the cast gets murdered at some point but for whatever reason black flag got my guard down. i don't know how this happened. maybe because the protagonist is an actual asshole and they started off the game tricking me into thinking it was about being an asshole with your pirate bros
but i just finished 'to suffer without dying'/the prison escape and i had to stop playing it (i'll still finish it of course because i like being hurt i guess) i was SO UPSET. mary was my favorite and i knew they were going to kill her because it's assassin's creed and because history but still. they fuck with history so much and they couldn't do this one thing to appease me!? and i can't even find this fandom. where do i go to whine about being in love with a video game character who died 300 years ago.
i think i was less upset by aeris's death and i was freaking 7 when that happened. i can't believe i fell for the dirty trap ubisoft laid for my emotions. i am still in the 'first of all how dare you' stage of coping with this video game. i have read that it has a happy ending "for an assassin's creed game" which means that it's happier than the protag's family all getting murdered/the protag murdering their family and then the protag getting murdered. the happiness bar is so low in this damn. series.
Re: SPOILERS
As for that happy ending, wait until you read Forsaken.
Re: SPOILERS
i didn't know this existed and i looked it up. WHY DID I LOOK THAT UP.
although this game did make me think about haytham more when i really didn't give 9 shits about him in AC3. i was just thinking 'wow great eventual parenting job there edward your son turned out super well-adjusted' but apparently there were other contributing ubisoft-like factors towards his dickishness goddammit ubisoft

Re: SPOILERS
I'll also admit that I didn't get overly attached this time around since they killed Desmond off last time and that just...sucked. Hugely.
[Also, for whatever it's worth, there are AC comms on DW...they just aren't that active, but there are a lot of people on tumblr who seem to like it?]
Re: SPOILERS
i suspected desmond was going to die, but i also thought "well they'll probably bring him back" so it didn't make me too emotional. but nope, wow, he's actually super dead. i guess the delay deadened my emotions enough where it didn't really affect me. i just hope all the characters in the next game are horrible dickbag nazi soldiers so i will feel nothing when ubisoft stuffs their new cast into their AC industrial-sized corpse freezer as they always do.
i have looked through the black flag tag on tumblr and it hasn't done much for me, sadly. i like the sassycreed tumblr but they don't have any ac4 stuff. i was hoping i could find some hilarious things to lift the veil of my bereavement but everything is sad and i think i might have to do something drastic like write my own fic, which i try never to do
Re: SPOILERS
You are talking about Mary and Edward, right? God, yea, I kept waiting for that to happen... I probably shipped those two more than just about anyone else in the AC universe.
Which obviously didn't end well. Fuck.
he's actually super dead made me laugh a lot, so thank you for that. I cried so much during his recordings and looking at his pictures. Like you I thought I had deadened myself to the idea of his death being final, but unlike you I was wrong.
Re: SPOILERS
shit the recordings were kind of painful though. once again thanks for including things that make me like this character more after you killed him in front of me, AC, keeping it classy as always
Re: SPOILERS
That is certainly the smart thing to do. None of my AC ships are canon and most of them are horribly depressing besides.
lol, it wouldn't be an AC game if you weren't sobbing whilst cursing Ubisoft for ripping your heart out and setting it on fire.
Re: SPOILERS
What happened to Mary upset me so much, because like you said, she was my favorite; I might've had issues with Edward but Mary was always beautiful and brilliant and lovable. I understand why Ubisoft had her die, but it still pissed me off; even though it was obvious she was going to die it didn't make her death any less heartbreaking.
Er, about the "happy ending for an AC game", I...sort of agree? It does definitely end on a happy note, but when you look back on all that's happened...it is disheartening. There's a scene at the end that I'm sure is going to make you bawl. Still, it's good. The game improves SO much in the final few sequences.
Re: SPOILERS
the gameplay though, yes. early on i sucked ass at naval battles but i wanted to get cargo so if there was a boat docked near me i would let go of the wheel, swim over to the other ship, murder the crew with a sword, swim back to the jackdaw and board them without a naval conflict because everyone was dead! i still don't know if this is considered doing it right or doing it wrong
There's a scene at the end that I'm sure is going to make you bawl
you know i wouldn't be surprised if the game re-played footage of my cat dying. i don't know how they'd even get it but it'd just be bam, new mission, "RESCUE YOUR CAT!!! JUST KIDDING HE'S DEAD!" fucking ubisoft
Re: SPOILERS
It does. Edward is a totally different type of character and it was a huge change of pace to play as him. It made me more engaged in the actual game-play and the secondary characters than the protagonist. But then...yea, they do shake things up eventually and the story comes together beautifully by the end. Ubisoft def achieved what they set out to do, I think.
Haha, I'm not sure what that's considered but as long as it worked for you GOOD. I liked the naval combat so did it the old fashioned way, but had I known this was possible I probably would've tried it earlier.
:( I'm really sorry about your cat. If Ubisoft could make that happen I'm sure they would at least consider it. Same with my dead dog. DON'T BRING THAT SHIT UP AGAIN. IT'S GONE. WE DON'T NEED IT RUINING OUR LIVES.
