Oh yes, I 100% agree with you. I LOVED Black Flag, but it took me a while to love it for the actual story as well as the game-play. The game-play was fucking awesome right from the beginning but tbh it wasn't into well into the game that I actually started liking Edward. He was a fucking dick and I just kept thinking, "So is he going to change anytime soon? ...Seriously, where is the development?"

What happened to Mary upset me so much, because like you said, she was my favorite; I might've had issues with Edward but Mary was always beautiful and brilliant and lovable. I understand why Ubisoft had her die, but it still pissed me off; even though it was obvious she was going to die it didn't make her death any less heartbreaking.

Er, about the "happy ending for an AC game", I...sort of agree? It does definitely end on a happy note, but when you look back on all that's happened...it is disheartening. There's a scene at the end that I'm sure is going to make you bawl. Still, it's good. The game improves SO much in the final few sequences.

edward being a dick really makes you realize how the other main characters have been mostly 'noble' people who try to adhere to the creed for the majority of the game. it was definitely a change of pace, but i was like "ha, i'm not gonna give a fuck about these assholes, i just wanna blow people up in my pirate ship" and then like 3 memories later i was invested/doomed.

the gameplay though, yes. early on i sucked ass at naval battles but i wanted to get cargo so if there was a boat docked near me i would let go of the wheel, swim over to the other ship, murder the crew with a sword, swim back to the jackdaw and board them without a naval conflict because everyone was dead! i still don't know if this is considered doing it right or doing it wrong

There's a scene at the end that I'm sure is going to make you bawl

you know i wouldn't be surprised if the game re-played footage of my cat dying. i don't know how they'd even get it but it'd just be bam, new mission, "RESCUE YOUR CAT!!! JUST KIDDING HE'S DEAD!" fucking ubisoft

It does. Edward is a totally different type of character and it was a huge change of pace to play as him. It made me more engaged in the actual game-play and the secondary characters than the protagonist. But then...yea, they do shake things up eventually and the story comes together beautifully by the end. Ubisoft def achieved what they set out to do, I think.

Haha, I'm not sure what that's considered but as long as it worked for you GOOD. I liked the naval combat so did it the old fashioned way, but had I known this was possible I probably would've tried it earlier.

:( I'm really sorry about your cat. If Ubisoft could make that happen I'm sure they would at least consider it. Same with my dead dog. DON'T BRING THAT SHIT UP AGAIN. IT'S GONE. WE DON'T NEED IT RUINING OUR LIVES.
