No energy :(

(Anonymous) 2014-01-18 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea when I became like this, but for a while I've felt like I have no energy to do anything. I've spent days in bed, not getting up except to go to the bathroom or get food. Even fun things, like going out with friends or writing creatively--if I'm allowed to lie around long enough, I'll start feeling like it's too much effort, and I should just watch Youtube for another twelve hours. I want to cook, I want to clean, I want to exercise, but I just don't feel like I have to energy to sit upright for ten minutes, let alone get up and do things.

Any tips or advice? Coffee? Yoga? I have no idea how to get out of this funk.

I have the same thing you have, since about the beginning of the month.

Do your best and try to remember the last time you wanted to do something and did it. Has there been any changes in your diet or life in general since then that might have caused this? For example, if the lack of energy is caused by a change in diet, do you have any multivitamins on hand that you can start taking in case a deficiency in vitamins/minerals is the cause? If you were exercising and stopped, gradually re-introduce exercising back into your life. So on and so forth.

I don't want to alarm you but there are a number of diseases and pathogens that can cause a sudden lack of energy too. Some of them are dangerous. If you cannot think of any reasons why you might have started feeling this way, please go see a doctor and get a full check up. :(

It sounds a lot like depression to me, but of course I could be wrong. agentcthulhu's advice is very sound and you should listen to it. If you have a vitamin/mineral deficiency or medical condition you want to know about it so it can be treated. (You certainly don't want to get worse or this to cause any kind of permanent damage. Be safe!)

Good luck with everything.

This happens to me occasionally (normally in short spans, no more than a week, though).

Two things that help, usually:

Forcing myself to get the fuck up and take a shower. For some reason, showers work really well for re-energizing me. And when I'm in that sort of mood, it's at least a first step towards *doing something*, and that's often the hardest.

If that doesn't work, what sometimes helps is to actually give myself a day off. Like, after a couple days of doing nothing because I can't muster the motivation, going "OK, today is a day explicitly to do nothing." That takes away the "oh, I really should do X" and guilt for the day, and often leaves me feeling actually somewhat refreshed. Basically, by giving myself permission to do fuck-all, I don't end up spending my "relaxation" stressed and guilty, and can actually recharge.

It may also be a symptom of some sort of issue, mental, physical, or both. If you can see someone about it, that might help.

Good luck!

Gets some sun?:( Sounds like some minor depression or a funk, I normally just try to wait them out. Read some books, go outside, go for a walk. I find the computer doesn't seem to help me much. Eventually I'll make myself do chores cause ew mess and only I can cleanit up.
Pat a pet if possible?

Go for a walk or a jog! No seriously, it's one of the best ways to improve overall circulation, and that includes your happy little brainmeats.

Do you feel better after forcing yourself to do things, or worse?
If worse, go to your doctor and have some tests done. If better, sounds like depression. I have both depression and chronic fatigue syndrome and each is a bugger on its own, let alone combined. (Note: not saying it's either, necessarily.)

Definitely sounds like depression (maybe temporary/seasonal) but idk for sure. There are any number of reasons.

Seconding the advice of anon above you. Does it help or hinder to get up and do shit anyway? For me, getting myself going when I don't feel like doing anything usually makes me feel better after I start.

Everyone else has good advice in this thread, but I just wanted to add that sometimes when I feel like that (or in any other kind of mood where I don't want to do something), a lot of the time just forcing myself to do one thing can make doing the rest a lot easier. For you, I would recommend just making sure you get up and having breakfast out of bed every morning, and/or have a shower and get dressed. Then, even if you do spend the rest of the day on the computer, make sure you don't spend it in bed.
