Nah, he just saw that it made no sense that he made Drogo all sweet at first and then having him pounding her until she sobbed, and that it was more realistic the show made it. He admitted he made it "too romantic".

when i read it, i saw her crying being more of the situation and her misery than physical pain (although not used to riding long distances, sex wouldn't be on my mind until i got used to it - that's damn hard).
