I wouldn't put too much thought into it. I have cried a few times while reading books - twice that I remember, both with books that I liked but that weren't my OMG FAVORITES. I think it just depends on if a scene touched me a particular way. I cannot remember if I cried reading HP, though I wouldn't be surprised if I did in book 7, particularly Dobby's death and Fred's. I don't think I cried for Snape's death in the book. But then in the movie I bawled for 20 minutes through that whole sequence, both times I saw it. I tend to cry more for visual media, I think because it's just that much more visceral, and I'm a visual person who likes being really immersed in media.

Seconded. I cry easily (and reliably) during certain movies/shows/pieces of music, but not as often when reading.
