The people I know who loved House of Leaves weren't fond of it either, if it that helps. I'm not really a fan of House of Leaves (for me the style wasn't supported by the substance) but I'd recommend anyone to at least flick through it in the library in case it piques their interest.

I'm halfway through J.J.Abram's S. myself, which might belong in a similar book category. I was enjoying it (the book itself is supposed to be an old library book and as well as the narrative in that book there's lots of notes written in the margins) but now that [SPOILER] it seems that it all comes down to some giant conspiracy I'm not as interested. I'll finish it, but it might occupy the same space as House of Leaves to me if it continues in this vein.
