It wasn't Tosh and Owen being nasty to each other though. It was mostly Owen being nasty to Tosh and Tosh mostly just taking it because she liked him so much which was actually pretty uncomfortable to watch. Their relationship only became bearable in s2 when Owen got a personality readjustment and actually started treating her like a human being instead of his favourite emotional punching bag. I may not be a huge fan of Agents of SHEILD, but I'm pretty glad that FitzSimmons are as far away from that dynamic as we can get and actually seem to like and respect one another.

Yeah, but there's still something about FitzSimmons that bothers me. I think it's that it kind of reads like puppy love on both their parts, but I want them to be buddies. It'd read less like crushing if they'd snark at each other, or at least affectionately tease, or something.

To me it reads less like puppy love and more of an...oddly healthy codependency. A bit like twins almost.

They seem to almost think of themselves as a single person.

I don't know if we're supposed to see them as crushing on each other although I tend to think Simmons has more of a crush on Ward than Fitz right now. They read more like siblings who really depend on one other than potential lovers. But of course friendships between men and women on shows rarely stay just friends, but we'll see.
