I'm so sick of people always bringing up "but some blondes have dark eyebrows!" Yes, SOME do. A lot of them don't, especially those who have extremely light, almost white-blond hair. Exceptions confirm the rule and all that, but the LARGE majority of blondes I know (and I live in a country with many many blondes) have at best dark blond eyebrows. I know exactly ONE blond person with really dark eyebrows, and frankly? She looks like a fake blonde because of that.

That being true, I think you still have to consider the fact that while light eyebrows look natural in real life, they have a tendency to disappear on film and in photographs. And when dramatic acting requires actors to convey so much with their facial expressions, I think there's an argument to be made for keeping eyebrows dark for filming. Legolas's hilarious expressions from the original trilogy would lose all impact if you couldn't see his exaggeratedly arched brows.

Another anon brought up Fandral from Thor, which is a good example. Light eyebrows on light faces just don't work out in film unless the characters are deliberately put in different lighting than everyone else, and that's its own brand of weird.

Speaking of Thor, I think the only scene in the first movie where his light eyebrows worked out was during the interrogation chamber scene, where he was in a completely white room and they showed a lot of close-ups of his face.

I was distracted by the fact that in that scene his brows were the exact brassy light-orangey shade my hair goes when I half-arse bleach it. Which is what happened there. Needed a toner.

And how many blonde elves do you know personally? Who is to say that isn't just a typical hair colour combo for them?
