'I didn't tell you/I won't tell him/her/them for their own good/to protect you/him/her/them.'

There are very narrow circumstances under which I can accept this one - usually when it takes the form of things like, "I didn't want you to have to lie to the cops" or "If they found out you knew, they would come after you for the information." (But then, I've been watching a lot of shows of that genre lately.)

When it's more like, "I didn't want you to get caught up in my secret superhero life because it's dangerous," I mostly want to strangle the character with their own garish costume.

Yes, occasionally it's justifiable, but, say - Supernatural. 'I didn't tell you all the info i have on the demons who are hunting you down FOR YOUR OWN GOOD.'
