Re: Your Storytelling Pet Peeves
'It's complicated' instead of explaining, or 'Nothing' or 'I'm fine'. Use your words. A good author can make the plot interesting without leaving most of the people in the dark re: the other characters.
Characters that hide illness or injury until they pass out/nearly die. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Also, the people who know there's something wrong but 'don't want to say anything/don't want to butt in'. ARRGH.
Any story where any character that isn't Becky-the-fangirl using fandom language or things like 'gah'. Stoppit.
Re: Your Storytelling Pet Peeves
There are very narrow circumstances under which I can accept this one - usually when it takes the form of things like, "I didn't want you to have to lie to the cops" or "If they found out you knew, they would come after you for the information." (But then, I've been watching a lot of shows of that genre lately.)
When it's more like, "I didn't want you to get caught up in my secret superhero life because it's dangerous," I mostly want to strangle the character with their own garish costume.
Re: Your Storytelling Pet Peeves
Uh, no. Really, really no.

Sadly, I'm a Tony Stark fan, so I run into this kind of insanity a lot.
There are circumstances where I think the other Avengers would hide injuries and make for some really good fic, but a.) those are all specific situations that b.) most don't involve existential angst, so they never appear. :(
Re: Your Storytelling Pet Peeves
Arrgh. I just hate it. Being injured isn't a *weakness*, but hiding it sure can turn into one.

So frustrating.
Re: Your Storytelling Pet Peeves
And a lot of the time they collaspe or something during an important fight FOR THE DRAMA and yet, to my immense anger, they are never severely punished for this. I would kick the ass of any subordinate who risked lives like that, but apparently actual professionals do not share my opinion.

I do love it though when that person finds out and gets rightfully angry that they were not allowed to make this choice for themselves. It's also why Lois Lane is perfection in female form when she's written well because that is EXACTLY her reaction when Clark tells her.
Especially when she points out that not knowing has never saved her from being in danger and she could have distanced herself from that danger whenever she damn well wanted.
