'I didn't tell you/I won't tell him/her/them for their own good/to protect you/him/her/them.' Not only wrong and stupid but usually deadly and/or backfires.

I do love it though when that person finds out and gets rightfully angry that they were not allowed to make this choice for themselves. It's also why Lois Lane is perfection in female form when she's written well because that is EXACTLY her reaction when Clark tells her.

Especially when she points out that not knowing has never saved her from being in danger and she could have distanced herself from that danger whenever she damn well wanted.
