I read a real book with chapters and everything this year!

New post at Leisure Time!

So, I was not a fan of Redshirts by John Scalzi. By all rights, I should have been, but I was not.

Some of my dislike stems from things like the characters being so interchangeable and perhaps the writing style in general just not being my cup of tea. But then it also reminded me of parts of the internet that I can't stand.

This was my first Scalzi book and will probably be my last unless someone convinces me it was an anomaly of badness.

It snowed last night for most of mid/east coast US. We got a nice, small blanket here.

*ahem*
*knocks on your door*

Do you wanna build a snowman?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-23 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Can we build a giant angry snow troll to guard our magic ice castle instead? Because I would totally be up for that.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-23 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Does he have to be angry? I'd love a laid-back "just doing my job" giant snow troll guard I can chat with during our down time.

Only if he can have a really magnificent snow penis.

What if it's small and cute like a little baby unicorn?

That's diiiiiiiiiiiiirty.

Babysitters100 at DW and LJ

Did you read the Babysitters Club as a kid? Or were you one of those unfortunate children who was deprived of it and now pine for the nostalgia you COULD BE EXPERIENCING?

Either way, come join the ficcing and reading fun! There are New York Sophistication, wacky outfit descriptions, very confusing temporal and spatial concepts (the Stoneybrook time warp, where eighth grade never ends and 80s/90s fashion reigns unvanquished). It's like sci-fi without all the robots! Or... the science.

If books about babysitting aren't your thing, no fear- California Diaries is full of angst and teenage drama and all the fun stuff you like in your YA.

So, come join

...Yeah, I wish I were high, before you ask. This fandom does exist, and I'm bored and sleep-deprived. I also think there's a distinct lack of BSC fic on the internet.

I read this and hated it.
