To Joss Whedon Fanboys
(Anonymous) 2014-01-23 12:36 am (UTC)(link)I don't know much about the bald headed man-child, so would you mind answering me this question?
First let's just accept for now your premise that he can even be a feminist instead for just an ally. Has he ever done anything real, anything solid to help or promote womens rights? has he helped or financially supported any organization set up to help women?
Has he in fact ever done anything other than having his masturbatory fantasies put on air, when by sheer coincidence those fantasies coinside with a mid-nineties perception of a strong female character?
I would argue no. I would say Joss Whedon does not even count as an ally, let alone a full blown feminist.

I used part of his Equality Now speech for some kind of school project...
Re: To Joss Whedon Fanboys (and fangirls...)
1. Who cares if he is a feminist or an ally? Terminology doesn't really matter, he tries to fight for equality and like everyone else on earth he is not perfect.
2. Except creating Buffy The Vampire Slayer? Or any of the other female characters in his other shows, which at the very least helped open up for even more strong/independent/Important/real women on television? Being involved in this: http://www.equalitynow.org/ without doing a lot of research I assume if he has not given any money to it he has at least used his fame to get some money in.
3. See point 2.
Also, I'll tell that to 15 year old me so she knows that when watching Buffy she shouldn't think that because the badass woman on television could be awesome and save the world then clearly I can become whatever the fuck I want too, because Buffy is just a "mastrubatory fantasy".

(Anonymous) 2014-01-23 12:54 am (UTC)(link)So yeah, he is a huge ally. And speaking as a feminist and a woman, please stop relying on tumblr for your fauxfeminist hateboner for all men.
