I like dual protagonists as a reader and I've written several. I wouldn't worry about it.

Any tips you could give? I already have a backstory and character arcs planned out for both of them that tie in and intersect with on another.

I'm not any kind of expert but I guess I could say some common sense stuff that you should keep in mind.

I think you've got the most important thing down. They need to have something to do with each other or you might as well have waited to tell the stories separately. So if you've intertwined their character arcs then I think you're good.

On the converse, they each need to stand on their own too. One shouldn't be acting like a secondary character and they should be well-balanced with each other.

If you work with themes, I'd say that they should each relate to your central theme in some way. They can have separate ones too but it will feel more cohesive if they are related in some way.

Same!

I think it depends on the reader. Some people don't do well with perspective switches or ensemble casts.
