If you just like the aesthetic of the period, I don't know, at least set it in the Kingdom of Madeupname.

I tend to do this by default with AUs, for BOTH reasons. It gives me leeway for any physical historical inaccuracies that crop up, and it allows me to rejig the societal standards as needed as well.

Failing 'Kingdom of Madeupname', the other option is to pretend it's an alternate history.
