Re: Irritating misinterpretations of characters in fandom and/or adaptations

The XMFC fandom does this really bizarre thing with Charles Xavier. The best way I can think of to describe it is kind of like turning him into a stereotypical uke in a crappy yaoi manga (which also tends to go along with turning Magneto into a stereotypical seme).

Also, when they portray him as a nice person who has never done anything assholeish or morally wrong. No, just no. Professor Xavier is a jerk.

McAvoy's huge soulful blue eyes may have contributed to that.

Eh. I think it can be argued that movie Xavier has very little asshole tendencies. Especially compared to comic verse.

nah, he's a jerk even in XMFC. I mean, he does more nice things than jerk things, but he still uses his powers to seduce women, tells his Holocaust-survivor friend that their enemies are "just acting under orders", and wipes Moira's memory for really no good reason (because, uh, he's hiding out in his own HOUSE, so if the gov't is looking for him they will probably not need her help).
I looooove him and I love James McAvoy's beautiful innocent countenance but Xavier is a jerk.

Dude, he's the biggest jerk to ever jerk. Wow. I can't even imagine seeing him written as a saint.

Still less offensively bad than the movie.
