Re: Irritating misinterpretations of characters in fandom and/or adaptations

Vulcans don't feel.

Dean is stupid. (Though the writers tend to forget this isn't true too.)

Peeta is useless. (As much as I enjoy joking about his *strongbad voice* skills of an artist, he's not useless.)

wait wait wait I am confused by that first one

isn't it canon that Vulcans actually have very strong feelings, and that's why they need to suppress them with logic?

ISN'T THIS EXPLICITLY STATED MULTIPLE TIMES IN EVERY SINGLE TREK SHOW?

YES THAT'S CANON BUT YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MANY FICS I READ WHERE THE AUTHOR IS LIKE "VULCANS DON'T HAVE FEELINGS BUT SPOCK IS DIFFERENT BECAUSE HE'S HALF HUMAN" AND THEN I NOPE SO HARD AND HIT THE BACK BUTTON.

I saw it stated again last night when I was looking for Trek fic and I was irritated all over again after my last foray into the fandom that I decided to read THG fic instead.

Suppressing and ignoring emotions =/= not having them in the first place.

If Peeta had been born in the Capitol he would have given Snow a run for his money as a brilliant politician. He knows exactly what to say and what buttons to push to get the reaction he needs. (Like telling the audience Katniss was with child.)

He knows how to play the game, that's for sure.

Peeta woulda been a million times better figurehead for the rebellion than Katniss. They shoulda prioritized getting him out as equal or greater than Katniss; he's an amazing speaker, smart, quick-witted, very strongly moral...Katniss is a very interesting heroine but she's very clannish and survival-focused.

*sighs* I doubt the 'Vulcans don't feel' thing is going away, ever. It's been there, since practically the start of the TOS fandom and will likely always be there.

Rampant Vulcan misrepresentation! My (least) favorite!
