If protection isn't used or at least sparingly mentioned all I can think about is pregnancy and possible spread of diseases or mess. Just takes me right out of the scene. So I kind of feel you, OP.

Yes, this exactly. I have a massive pregnancy kink, but only if it's planned and within the confines of a long-term healthy relationship. I have too many IRL idiot guy friends who don't wear condoms and LO AND BEHOLD, two of them have had unplanned kids. I always assume the writer is either lazy or a young teenager if there is zero mention of contraception, or panic about lack of contraception, since that should be part of EVERY instance of real-life het sexytimes.
