What's the weather like? I imagine it very jungle-y and hot but honestly have no idea.

I live in Buenos Aires.
This summer has been annoyingly hot, but a couple days ago it rained and now it's cool and sunny.

That's here though, there are many different climates along the whole country. Some parts, especially towards the North are jungl-y and hot, others are arid hot. And towards the South is fucking cold.

How (in general terms) is the cost of living? Especially as regards books and things of that kind - I remember hearing that it can be quite expensive.

Books are way too expensive lately. Well, everything is expensive, thanks to inflation levels rising all the time.
The economy is a mess, and it seems it's going to keep getting worse.

........ we have an Argentinian anon. Oh my god I thought I was the only one from South America here, let me hold you <3 Hello, I'm from Chile! ^^

I've heard about the electricity shortage you guys are having, that sucks so much. Are there any good news currently across the Cordillera?

There's another Argentinian user, but she hasn't commented in a while! (Gabzilla-z - I know this from her tumblr, she has the same username)

Hi! (Hola! :P)

I'm really really lucky that my electricity hasn't been cut (yet *touching wood*), but most people I know have been without power for a couple hours as a minimum, some for days.

Good news? The awful heat finally stopped and I'm not melting anymore! :)

(Hola, vecino~)

I really hope things get better for Argentina soon, in all manner of things, the inflation is terrible right now :( It's not only the electricity.

Glad to hear the heatwave has receded for the time being for you as well! We'd been having around 35°C in Santiago the last weeks in dry heat, but suddenly it has gone down a couple of degrees and it's such a relief.

Yeah, it's scary what's happening with the dollar.

How is the economy there, btw?

TL;DR >>;; Sorry.

It's really scary, and I hate Latin America being so damn dependant on the USA economy so hard. They fucked up, and now the consequences of their mistakes are trickling down to us.

Things here were always expensive, so indeed the prices are going up and we don't like it, but it's not as sudden or violent as it could have been. You can tell specially in the cost of transportation and electricity bills, though we're not in an electrical crisis yet. Food is still quite affordable, but maybe that's because I'm in Santiago and everything is centralized around Santiago.

All in all, it's the basic services what have taken the brunt of this because yeah, thaaaaank you Pinochet & Concertación for privatizing the fuck out of every major business for +40 years. I can't even fault the idiotic Piñera for this, everything was screwed from decades ago.
