It really bugs me, in fandoms for serial works in particular, when the activity that usually makes up the bulk of any given episode is relegated to generic background noise and/or convenient, featureless facilitation for the epic romance story of the OTP. (This only applies to long multi-chapter fics, of course, not to short fics or fics that take place over a very short timespan.)

I don't think I have a problem with it per se, only with the fact that it's SO DAMN COMMON.
