Hell, one of my most popular stories is basically a re-write of canon that still fits within the ethos/style of the show. And I feel unashamed saying my version is better.

...granted, the show is Merlin, so that really isn't saying much. But still, I've sometimes had to check back with the show because I wasn't sure whether some piece of background was what I wrote, canon, or headcanon. :P
