Re: Irritating misinterpretations of characters in fandom and/or adaptations

That Belle has stockholm syndrome. Have these fuckers ever watched the movie? Did they not see that she NEVER put up with the Beast's shit and only started falling for him AFTER he started to change himself as a person? And even as she started liking him SHE STILL LEFT to find her dad?

Oh, and that the Beast is just an abusive monster. He was a kid that was cursed into a hideous beast and left alone in a cursed castle for god knows how long. He's probably half insane. But even as bad as he is, he comes to realise he needs to change as a person and then he does - do you not see the big goddamn hint of the beast in the ripped cape turning into the beast in a formal suit ballroom dancing? SYMBOLISM, HELLO.

That Jean from Attack On Titan will never ever ever ever get over Marco's death and will die alone because they were SO IN LOVE. I like the pairing too, but for fuck's sake, Jean is FIFTEEN. He WILL eventually move on. (Assuming he survives the series.)

And right now the Dumbing Of Age fandom is pissing me right the fuck off with how much they shit on Danny. Danny's a bit of a dumb bulb, sure, but he's being constantly used and lied to and kept in the dark, but apparently everything is still his fault. People are shitting on him right now because a friend's parent, who is an abuser with years of experience, is manipulating him. HOW DARE HE NOT KNOW WHAT THE AUDIENCE KNOWS!

Oh, yes. Every version of Beauty and the Beast ever told is actually a deeply troubling romanticizing of Stockholm Syndrome, don'tch'a know. Which ignores all the versions where Beauty goes to the Beast of her own free will, against her family's wishes, to preserve her father's life and her own honor, and all the versions where the Beast is awestruck by her strength and her bravery and changes his behavior to please her, while his attempts to order her around are met with 'not compromising my principles for you, thanks much.' Because obviously Beauties are wilting flowers who crumple like wet tissue paper at the least provocation and never view their Beasts as an adventure in themselves.
--someone who currently ships Rumpelstiltskin and Belle on Once Upon a Time, is anxiously awaiting the release of that new French BatB movie next month so she can compare it to the Cocteau film, and who will probably always ship BatB couples given the opportunity.

SO much fucking agreement on Danny. I literally can't believe some of the shit people are saying about him. Just raw, ugly hostility.
