Re: Irritating misinterpretations of characters in fandom and/or adaptations
(Anonymous) 2014-01-26 06:16 am (UTC)(link)Absolutely HATE IT that in so much fic Bones is somehow the weakest of the three due to spending all his time WORRIED about Jim and Spock and powerless to do anything about it, constantly drunk and all ANGSTY that his friends like each other. [This is usually done for shipping reasons; I could deal with 80% of fic being Kick/Spock but this side effect is RIDICULOUS.] Also, when they over-exaggerate his distaste for the transporter into a full-blown phobia.
Damnit, he's a bad-ass doctor, not a teenager!
P.S. Just because he's the only one who has relatives whose names we know [well, that aren't immediately killed off or forgotten forever] does NOT mean he spends all his time on the enterprise being super depressed about how he can't see them. For fuck's sake, he's a middle-aged man who made a life choice to leave home for a limited amount of time not a kid at camp who suddenly thinks he'll never see mommy again when its dark.
