I didn't know this was a thing. How is Let It Go a song for sopranos??

Because if there's a single note in a song that you can't personally hit, it automatically means it's for sopranos, omg the voice discrimination, or something?

Because it was written for Idina Menzel, who's a soprano, and it's pitched accordingly.

I believe she's actually classified as a mezzo soprano, which is sort of in the middle between soprano (of which there are many kinds, but let's just use lyrical here) and alto -- can hit higher notes than an alto, can go lower than a soprano. So the issue becomes murky.

If the song really does top out at an Eb5, that's like textbook contralto range. Literally, Wiki lists the standard range as F3-F5. I'm a shitty but determined soprano, and from my experience, songs written for true sopranos top out somewhere in G5-B5 range depending on if it was written with a specific person's vocal range in mind.

Wiki's Let It Go page has the song marked as F3-Eb5, so yeah. Good luck finding sopranos who can hit a solid F3 and not want to kill their vocal chords while they're at it
