Movie vs television shows

I was curious what one you guys prefer and if you think one lends itself to higher quality story-telling.

I'm kind of partial to movies because seasonal rot isn't a thing (unless you count sequels), they're short, and usually have a higher budget/film ratio.

To me, that's kind of like comparing apples to kumquats. While they're both visual storytelling mediums, the format is vastly different. A movie has to pack a whole story into a couple of hours, while a TV show can do way more and stretch the plot and character growth out over several episodes or even seasons.

agree. very different, and I don't feel one form has more value than the other. there are well-made movies and well-made tv shows. they're both doing different things.

I prefer television because I like watching characters and stories grow and change over time. I don't think one medium is better than the other.

There's more room for complexity and character development in a TV show, which is something I tend to prefer, but both can be done well. If you have a shorter story, the movie medium allows for high-quality storytelling as well.

I like long plot arcs, but also can't stand sitting and just WATCHING stuff for very long at one time - non-interactive media tends to make me restless and bored. So I prefer television, as it's usually broken down into hour-or-less chunks that are over before I get too impatient, but often have some continuity, so stuff from previous episodes can show up again and so on instead of everything having to be resolved within 2, maybe 3 hours of plot. I really only ever watch movies if I've got something else to do at the same time, like sewing or playing a handheld video game, or if I'm really incredibly sick and literally can't do anything but passively watch media.

Movies are more cohesive, but I prefer TV shows because the length is so much greater, I think you get to know the characters better than you do in a comparatively shorter movie.

Movies. They're short, and I can watch them any old time.
