Re: Male-female friendships

Sisko and Kira in Deep Space Nine. They have a very good professional relationship, and just a lot of respect for each other as friends. Actually, a lot of the relationships on DS9, such as Julian and Kira, Sisko and Dax (although he relates to Dax as a man, it's tricky) and Julian and Dax.

Rachel and Kurt in Glee. They know just how to boost each other's morale and support each other's ambitions, while also bringing each other down to earth when they get too carried away.

Seconding Abbie/Ichabod and Joan/Sherlock, of course.

Eleanor Dashwood and Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. They just spend the book being sensible and responsible at each other, and have a nice friendship. Then he marries her sister, which is okay.
