[Pretty Little Liars]

(Anonymous) 2014-01-30 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
IA that it's extremely creepy, and I really hope they make him a villain for good. It's even more disturbing after the most recent episode
However, I'm still afraid they'll find a way to retcon his being A like they did with Toby.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
I started watching when I found out he's A and there are a lot of things that seem to be him manipulating and gaslighting her from the very beginning. My Vampire Diaries trauma and the way the showrunners seem to be panicking about the Hanna/Caleb/Miranda stuff on Ravenswood, however, also have me thinking they'll probably retcon it eventually.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-30 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I was crying when her parents found out and eventually okay'd the relationship. Yeah sure Erza let me help you get that job.

*crying from tears of hilarity*

Her parents did WHAT?!

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Not only were they perfectly okay with it, but nobody in the show has ever questioned the appropriateness of a teenage student dating her teacher.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
How old is she and is he just a teacher at her school or her teacher?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Her teacher. I didn't proceed after that point and only watched the first episode.

Well, that's not true, but ok.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
As I recall they weren't immediately OK with it. There was lots of angst because her parents were ~keeping them apart~... and they were ABSOLUTELY in the right. But because it's ~true love~ or some bullshit I guess eventually her parents were okay with the creepy power dynamics and STATUTORY RAPE so yay all peachy keen now. wtf show.

Yes, I've only seen 6 episodes of the series and Ezra/Aria gives me the creeps.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I stopped at the end of season 1 (I seriously feel like this whole thing should have been resolved within a season or two at most, like how is this still going) but these two SKEEVED ME THE FUCK OUT not to mention pissed me off. My boyfriend watched a little bit with me and as soon as he realized what their dynamic was he couldn't keep watching. It's disgusting, HOW are more people not against this?

If he's revealed as a villain I might pick it up again. Because watching it with the knowledge that he is EXACTLY as creepy as I always felt he was might help.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
It's pretty funny how romanticized it is on the show. I saw it and I wondered why it was on ABC Family with a student/teacher relationship in there. It's not a particularly good example for young people.

SPOILER ALERT FOR SEASON 4

He has been revealed as a villain, actually. They could still try to retcon it or do some redemption bullshit, but he is being played SUPER intentionally creepy/evil right now and it is glorious. I really hope they don't back off. I have a feeling he's not "A", which is kind of what they are pushing right now, but I hope they keep him as a Bad Guy.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
If they back off of having him as a bad guy then the writers are even bigger idiots then I thought. This is an excellent subversion of the romanticized student-teacher romance, and they already pulled the fakeout with Toby. I am so sick of this feet-dragging. It's clear the writers have no idea what happened the night Ali went missing and are making this shit up as they go along. Ezra being A makes a lot of sense, and the actor does a good job of being genuinely creepy.

[personal profile] agnes_bean 2014-01-31 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree. This twist and the last few episodes have taken Ezra from my least favorite character on the show to one of the best, and Ian Harding is rocking it. I will probably rage quit if they back off.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
I will almost surely be done with this show if they back out of the Ezra reveal. They already did that with Toby and doing it again would just be too much. Plus, Ezra being a Bad Guy will make it much easier to watch the earlier seasons of this show where their relationship is romanticized. Because it will mean that both Ezra and the writers were trolling us all along and that is just DELIGHTFUL.

ITA.

It's perfect not only morally (because his relationship with Aria would be acknowledged as problematic) but also dramatically since we would finally get payoff for all those episodes where the other girls were fighting for their life and Aria was just staring into Ezra's eyes. Also I like that now she has martial arts training, she can be the one who kills him!!!

I really wanted to watch this show and couldn't get past the first episode because of that. I've seen that kind of thing happen IRL and of course everyone blamed the victims, so it makes me incredibly angry to see it treated as okay or worse, romantic in fiction (and don't get me started on the fandom).

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
It ALWAYS seems to be treated as okay in fiction, and even when it's not, everyone interprets it as okay anyway. I watched only the first episode and couldn't keep going for just this pair. I have a feeling it's shit like this that keeps people blaming the kid in RL situations like it.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I would be willing to forgive A LOT on the show if Ezra ends up being A (and/or the person who tried to kill Ali). There is literally no one I can think of who is better suited to be the person Ali's so afraid of (Jason's my second choice). If this whole season turns out to be a red herring I will completely lose my shit. Like, who the fuck else could it be? This show introduces a shitload of characters and then forget about them (what happened to Noel? Lucas? Jenna? That little ghost child that randomly appeared in that one Halloween episode?), and then introduces these insane, convoluted plots that are never solved. How much longer can they possibly drag this shit out? I'm really hoping Ezra is A, because then we can FINALLY get some answers instead of another "lol, jk bitches."

I feel like Wren would make slightly more sense because his interest in underage girls has been established as a trend, he's always conveniently present, Ali mentioned she knew a doctor who'd give birth control pills to teens in secret, etc.

Idk, as much as Ezra disgusts me, I have trouble taking him seriously as an ~evil mastermind. But I'd be happy to see them make any of these creepy guys A.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
OMG I totally forgot about Wren! Yeah, I think he definitely has the makings of A, if they choose to go that route. Like you said, one of the creepy guys.

I just love the idea of Ezra being A (or at least in on it) because he was there since the very beginning, and I really hate how the show romanticizes his relationship with Aria. It would be a nice wake-up call to the fandom who think Ezria is the most romantic thing ever (many of those fans being teenage girls themselves) if the show depicts him for what he is, a predator who has some sick fascination with underage girls (especially if he was involved with Ali).

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
This is what I tried to tell my friend after she insisted that I watch this stupid show. It's fucking gross that this show plays into the sixteen-year-old's whining about how her legal aged teacher is ignoring her and ignoring their true love connection right off in the first season. That told me enough to stop watching anything more past the first half of season one. It would be more believable if they were college aged, like a student and a TA or something.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't find it creepy at all. Mostly because I saw the two of them as two humans who shared a real connection, and not OMG SICK BASTARD TEACHER PREYING ON HIS STUDENT HOW DARE HE or whatever. I know how they met, and I'm not squicked at all by their age difference.

Of course, in recent episodes, Ezra's behavior has been extremely creepy (showing up in A's lair, board shorts, snooping in Hanna's room, being at the restaurant/bar and ordering the exact pie/beer Ali wrote about), and if he turns out to be a huge part of the A thing and has been a willing participant in the terrible things that have been happening to the girls, I do hope Aria kicks his ass to the curb. Am I holding out hope that there are reasons for his actions that have nothing to do with him being A/A's cohort? Sure. But even if that turns out not to be the case, I'd like to see the show to the end.

I admit to being amused at the level of butthurt from the show writers' deliberately deceptive plots. It's called Pretty Little LIARS. No point in being upset with a show that's just living up to its name; might as well just tune in to something a little more straightforward with the plot.
