I don't think of my comp as bad (I can play assassin's creed 1-3 - dunno about 4 bc I got it for my ps3 for xmas - and bioshock infinite, dishonored, skyrim, and other fairly recent games). I always check if my computer can play it first because I don't have a lot of free money for this kind of thing. But a couple weeks ago I got a check from my aunt for a graduation gift and I bought Far Cry 3 (which the Steam site said I met the requirements) but every time I try to play it I can only get about 10 minutes in before it starts getting messed up, with the sound and video getting off from each other and the input from my controller not going in until a few seconds later. It's so frustrating and I spent money on this game but I can't play it normally.

But still I don't really know how to ask about it on the Steam forums because I've seen all that same things you have and I think they're kind of mean about everything there. And no, I can't get a new computer! I can make ends meet and treat myself every now and then on this computer I already have (a gift from my parents btw) but it is really upsetting that I spent money I could have used for a other things on this game and I can hardly play it because the site lied and said I could use it. And I have the nvidia geforce thing which says I don't have the minimum optimal settings, but I don't care about optimal settings, the minimum REQUIRED settings should be enough to play in normal time, even if you don't care about it being the most pretty pristine looking thing ever.

Not sure if you, or the OP for that matter, have tried this already, but when I have PC gaming problems like this I always just try googling it and looking through the results, usually someone already asked about it and in most cases have gotten an answer that works for me. I usually find that the people who already answered them weren't massive assholes about it either, so you typically don't have to read that, plus if you do, at least it isn't directed at you, even though I don't think anyone should be an asshole about these kinds of things, at least they are asking and not getting frustrated and decrying the game because of it.

Also for you specifically anon, have you tried giving your PC a good cleaning out of dust? Because problems like this I find tend can be because of accumulation of dust in the case heating up the graphics card and screwing with game play, although if that were the problem you would most likely be having your entire system crash after a while. Either way, getting the dust out of your computer is always something that can help, tends to help in various ways, like games running smoother and stuff.

I'll def try that, thank you! I've been wanting to clean it out anyway because I feel that the fan is not working very well and it does heat up so I wanted to open up the bottom panel and just clear it all out. But one of the screws is in super tight and I couldn't get it out last time I tried, so I gave up because there was no really important reason to do it! But if that might be an issue I'll try again in the next couple days to see if it helps, because I do want to play this game!

No problem, glad I could help. You can always try magnetic screwdrivers to help keep the screwdriver in place to help with turning; also putting pressure on the screwdriver to drive/force it into the screw while turning always helps me with tight screws. You can also try stuff from here too

Also remember to use a can of compressed air to get the dust out, safer than using a cloth to get the dust off because they can generate static electricity and fry some electronic components.

I also think that FarCry 3 is just one of those games that are tough on anything but the best gaming PCs; I played it on a pretty good gaming laptop and was still have a bit of lag on medium graphic setting, not sure how much of this was due to any fancy pants graphic settings that were still on like motion blur, but it is a 'cry game, and the original Crysis was used as test graphics test for computers when it came out, so maybe it's like its predecessor.
