If someone actually had not an ounce of fat on their frame, they'd be a corpse. Humans need a certain percentage of body fat to live.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
pretty much this.

just go with 'athletic build', writers. or 'lean'.

"Lean" is a great word. For more specific bodies, other great words include "slender," "lithe," "svelte," and "slim."

I love the word svelte. It sounds so fancy. ~Svelte~

"Trim" has always been one of my favorites.

This. Granted, there are diseases that make incapable of storing body fat, but they are extremely rare (funnily enough, a google search for this type of diseases only shows pages that talk about "obesity").

You need fat cells to live.

If you're looking for someone with such a disease, try Lizzie Velasquez (who, by the way, is fabulous).

Huh. I specifically remember my anthropology teacher talking about the physical differences between the sexes, and he specifically mentioned that women have an extra layer of fat under their skin. Which is just part of being a woman. (I remember cause the minute he said it I pinched my arm and went WOW.)

So that's just an odd and incorrect thing to say about a female OC to begin with.

I think in the same way some people write about sex and make it clear they dont' know a think about sex, some people just don't know what they are talking about regarding "the ideal body"

tbh I'm really tired of hearing about how thin/athletic characters are in fanfic. In certain fandoms you can't read smut without stumbling upon things like "slender hips" or "toned body". Ugh.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
ummm but if those words describe the character why not?

[personal profile] rubbertea 2014-02-01 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well then that's okay, but it's everywhere and applied even to characters who are neither of these things.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
If it's repeated over and over and over within the same fic it can get kind of grating, like when the author won't stop gushing over the color of a character's skin or the size of their dick.

Sometimes it feels like the author thinks that one single aspect of the character is supposed to be more arousing than the actual porn, and if you don't kink that way then there's a bit of a disconnect.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
This only pisses me off if it doesn't match the character - like, say, Dean from SPN. Jensen Ackles isn't overweight, but he is solidly built!

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
He would still had fat in his body! Fat cells and adipose tissue don't magically disappear because you're beefy or muscular!

People use that for athlethic characters? I've only seen it used for obsessive people who don't eat

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Either that, or I have seen it not so much for "athletic" characters as "sexy" women characters. Which is still dumb because said ladies still typically have boobs (often large ones!), which are mostly fat.

people (most likely young teenagers) don't know anatomy/biological facts, news at eleven.

It's a figure of speech, you're not supposed to take it literally. Also, pretty sure the way it's supposed to be used is "not an ounce of [superflous] fat".
