I work in an industry in which the only charge that the client isn't able to refuse is that for our time and effort. Ou teachers told us over and over "Do not be afraid to charge for your work; your time is just as important as theirs is." They're paying you for a skill that they might not have.

Think of someone paying you as you might think of someone saying "I like your art; can I do your laundry/buy you dinner/clean your windows?" They're saying "I like what you do and I want to do something so that you can have more time to continue making this beautiful thing."
